Birthday plans
In a few weeks its my birthday and I thought this sounded like a fine excuse to go out and drink cocktails.

So the saturday after my birthday, which is the 24th January, I will be going out cocktailing somewhere. Exact location to be determined but this is just to let people know and also if people are definitely coming do let me know. That way if there turn out to be hundreds of people interested then I can think about booking somewhere or something...

I intend to declare a non-mandatory dress code which is black tie. THis is mainly because there are never enough excuses to dress up smart.

So, in summary:

Date: 24th January
dress code: Black tie
Location: Somewhere around the little clarendon street/jericho area, I expect.

Any questions, feel free to ask. More details nearer the time. Pass on to anybody who might care but isn't on my friends list.

Me! But can I have dispensation to wear cocktail dress rather than black tie? Knee length travels much better than any of my full length dresses ;)

OK, well I dont' know the ins and outs of ladies wear. I'll take your word that cocktail dresses are different from black tie. ;-)

So yeah, cocktail dresses are allowed. :)

Black tie is ankle length :) Not that you'd know it in Oxford! I spent 4 years chuntering at every posh event I went to *wry*

Ah, well I don't mind seeing a bit of calf so shorter dresses are definitely allowed. ;-)

Can't make it - [info]lathany and I are in Cambridge that weekend.

I always assume that anybody not in oxford will just declare it too far anyway. ;-) You can always raise a glass in cambridge and I'll try to remember to toast you at some point. :)

All a bit hectic here atm, as I need to get the grant applicatoin for work in on the 14th Jan (so it will be done, but it's a stress atm). I need to collect the mazda once it's fixed. I put a holding fee on a house on saturday and contracts must change in 28 days from then, oh and I need a morgage lalala....

So busy, but want to come.

(also it's the weekend of the winter beer festival).

well, I don't *need* responses now necessarily. If you decide nearer the time you want to come then that's cool otherwise I'll try to get to cambridge sometime before too long... So contracts are changing fairly soon, when do you complete (I know all the jargon now)?

exchanging contracts and completing aren't necessarily the same thing. Exchanging contracts will involve an agreed completion date which is basically when you get the keys and have to pay the full sum of money. You are committed at that point. I wasn't sure if they needed exchange in 28 days because they want commitments - it may have been that there was still work needing to be done which meant completion would be longer.

I got very confused when I was buying a house about exchange and completion and all that. :) Also thinking about it 28 days doesn't seem like a huge time for all the solicitors checks and such like to be done but I guess on a new build these things are much easier because there is no history to the property to be investigated. :)

Yeah, it's just exchanging contracts, we'll probably move 2 weeks after that or something. I'll just learn it as I go... I have a 25 page form to fill out here for my mortgage first.

I may or may not be landing back in the country on 20th jan so I'll see what I can do but obviously best friends and family get priority to see me. :)

Of course, you'll have a lot of catching up to do. You're welcome to make a flying visit if you find yourself in the right neighbourhood, even if you don't stay out all evening. :)

I see you far too infrequently these days, I like drinking cocktails, and my black tie needs an airing. Consider me in.

Good point in fact, while I had noted down the date I'd (obviously) failed to mention I'd planned on coming along. I really can't promise B/T cause my defining trait is lazy, but you never know.

That's fair. I appreciate not everybody necessarily even has black tie, let alone can be bothered with it. I just wanted to try to get at least some people dressing up with me so I didn't feel too overdressed. ;-)

I'm interested - I haven't yet put away my black tie outfit after NYE and would love a chance to give it another airing :)
